Keep working on the magic of relationship.
My parents met in college in the 60s as young and idealistic hippies.
They married in 1968 in a rush because my father had been drafted and was shipping out to Vietnam. They planned and executed the wedding in 2 weeks.
He spent a year in Vietnam and came back with malaria and PTSD. Nonetheless, they had two children and started creating a life for them. (I am on the left.)
They hit a rough patch and announced to me and my brother that they intended to divorce. They went to therapy and worked on their marriage for over a year. The divorce never happened and they celebrated anniversaries.
And weddings
And grandchildren
They’ve taken hot air ballon rides.
They advocate for climate change awareness together. (Remember the idealistic hippies?)
And right now, after over 50 years of marriage and at 73 and 74, they are in Antarctica. I got this picture in my email today!
My parents are madly and passionately in love and also badass! Aren’t they so darn cute?
